Nature Excursion- Pollinators of Mackinac

Description

Join educators from The Original Mackinac Island Butterfly House & Insect World in exploring the Mackinac Island State Park. Observe and learn about various species of insects, birds, and plants.

Open to all ages (Children under the age of 7 years will require a guardian/adult, otherwise adult presence is not necessary; parents feel free to drop off kids and pick them back up at Butterfly House)

Nature excursions will begin on Sunday, June 9th, and occur every other Sunday from 10:00 am to 11:30 am.

Pre-registration is required.

The excursion is $20/person with a maximum of 15 people, and a minimum of 3. If less than 3 people sign up, or there is inclement weather, all tickets will be refunded. No refunds otherwise.

Meet in front of the butterfly house by Daisy the Turtle, located at 6750 McGulpin St. Mackinac Island.

  • Hike the Mackinac Island State Park trail system and learn about insects, their roles in the environment, and various habitats.
  • Sift through leaf litter and look under logs to find salamanders, millipedes, and other decomposers.
  • Learn how to correctly identify (and avoid) poison oak and poison ivy.
  • Discuss the key characteristics of native plants and the animals that pollinate them.
  • Use all five senses to immerse yourself in nature.
